MARRIAGE EQUALITY
straight or gay it doesn't matter.
we've seen this before.
its always our differences that set us apart:
the color of our skin and the shape of our genitals,
the language of our tongue, the beliefs of our hearts,
are we really all that different?
we let our bodies divide us,
yet our bodies show the truth -
WE ARE ALL HUMAN, so why aren't we all equal?
the religionless nation under god,
where civil rights and liberties are hailed,
individuality celebrated.
but the american dream doesn't extend to me.
my rights are not the same.
is it fear? how can we possibly do any further damage?
the family is not in danger, but our compassion is.
not a fan of gay marriage? then don't get one,
but don't expect me to get one of yours either.
all we are asking is for the same chances you have.
the logic is not sound:
its not about gay vs straight
its a matter of sanity.
some people have it, some people.... dont
guess who has the power?
--------------
i don't like having to keep this (i hate to use this word, but its just too fitting) fight going. I AM MORE THAN MY ORIENTATION, but it is also a part of who i am. i don't define myself solely by it, for i am not one dimensional. but it is hard to ignore something that is constantly being thrown in your face. GAY? STRAIGHT? we are the same, but our rights are not.
so may be i'm furthering the us vs them race. i don't mean to. i just have to get out my feelings.
because some day i want to be able, if i'm ready, to create a life with someone i love. my reality is that this said person is most likely going to be a girl. it would be nice for my love to be equal in the eyes of the law with any other couple.
why is that so wrong?
