Someone first pointed this out to me on PSC, but this is an issue that is very close to my heart. It is unacceptable to me, that we live in a world where death is the punishment for being gay. Hate is such a strong and vile force in our world.
Anyway... here is my rant:
** note: when I get upset, my ADD really comes out, so stay with me if i jump from topic to topic and don't make a lot of sense.. I'm frustrated about this issue.. and my head is rolling with ideas of what to say, and nothing truly flows..**

My reaction to this was literally to wanna scream/cry/shout/break a pencil/ scream some more/ track down the Larry's killer and make him see!
I am pansexual, I love people, regardless of sex. Though, on the Kinsey Scale I rate about a 4.5-5.0. I also have a wonderful girlfriend who I completely, head-over-heels, in love with. So, as I mentioned, this issue is personal.
I really hate hatred [har har har] based on religion, race, orientation... ANYTHING. I jokingly say I hate things, but when it comes down to it. I don't truly hate anyone, or any group of people. I may disagree very strongly with that person's, or group of persons', actions, but I do not hate them, I hate what they do. [Though people who wear uggs or crocs must die!!!!!!]
Killing someone is never the answer though. I have a problem with the death penalty. The concept is that you killed someone, so we're gonna kill you! But shouldn't someone kill us for killing you... and so forth?
But what really gets me about this is that Larry was in 8th grade! They were 15 year old boys. At 15, to feel that your masculinity is so threatened by another guy..... I can't even imagine it. To have such strong hatred at 15... it makes me sad. That is the world we live in, that is the message we are sending to the future generations...
We are fighting a war on terror in Iraq, what about the terror in our own country? The discrimination, the hatred.....

To kill someone, because of their orientation, to deem that person unworthy to live.... it's just not right. As Ellen says, "when the message out there is so horrible that to be gay, you can get killed for it, we need to change the message. Larry was not a second-class citizen. I am not a second-class citizen. It’s ok if you’re gay."

For all of history, the human race has been plagued with murder. Cain killed Abel, Hitler killed millions, John Wilkes Booth killed Lincoln... and what has it accomplished?
Someone sees that Brandon has killed Larry because of his sexuality, what does this someone see? That killing is an okay way to "deal with" such an issue.
** Right now I can barely form rational thoughts.... I'm just so disturbed by this. Expect me to update/ at least comment about this again shortly.**

I often question whether it is actually *hatred* that makes people anti-homosexuality. I think it could be ignorance and fear as well. (Although I don't really understand what there is to fear, although humans do have a tendency to discriminate against minorities, so perhaps it is some odd instinct...I really don't know. That was a terrible run-on sentence.)

I agree with pretty much all of it. Except for the uggs/crocs part, because they're the least of our problems. If you're going to hate someone, make it someone worth hating, not just some innocent person with unfortunante shoes!

How come, after all these years, Fundamentalist ideas STILL have so much influence over America? Whatever happened to Separation of Church and State? It's not fair to anyone, equality under the law and freedom to practice what you choose should be upheld.
Hopefully, change WILL come in the '08 election...too bad I won't be 18 by then...

God, it's reasons like this that irk me about our attitude towards gays. I'm so pissed off that everyone is convinced that gays are inhumane. As one character said in Geography Club(I'm paraphrasing): "Straight couples hold hands, kiss in public, they display their affection and we're the ones rubbing our lifestyles in their faces!" How sick and twisted do you have to be to do something so horrible to a kid at fifteen. I'm fifteen, and let me tell you, it is hard as hell to feel accepted by society. But yet we manage, we kind of have to.

i still cant believe that this kid was even capable of containing such hatred, enough to kill one of his classmates. something like this could happen to anyone but to kill the person who asked you, what kid of person do you come off as? do his friends think he's cool? does he look like a badass? its unbelieveable how much children are brought up to judge each other. so a kid in your class is gay, so what?? its really nobody's business and it definitely shouldnt be anyone's problem. its not like Larry attacked brandon, begging him to go out. ahhhhh im so angry at this kid, its ridiculous. i feel horrible for all the people who cant even complete simple daily tasks like everyone else when they have to go through all this extra bullshit that people give them for their personal choices.
honestly i think what would have happened if LARRY had killed brandon? i'll bet it would have recieved immediate attention and everyone would have been quick to say "look at what those people do, we cant have them near us" and it would have gotten so much more attention. i wouldnt have heard about this if you didnt make a post about it on facebook. events like these should be well-broadcasted so society can make an honest decision and not just present what they want people to see so they can change them.
i hate this so much because my mom is the same exact way. she believes all homosexual people should die immediatly and burn in hell for the world to see. it makes me so angry to see her just say that and not to actually value a person's life. something like that you cant just throw away.
sometimes i wonder if religion gets in the way of people doing what they really want to.

Hm...that twelve year old, Tempest Smith, was...dare I say it...ignorant. Being of such a young age, she could not understand that life is for living, not for giving up because people treat you like shit. I hate suicide. It's usually selfish and idiotic. Poor child. Children aren't able to handle things completely responsibly. Tis sad to hear of a small child killing itself, because that's not what children are supposed to do. But then again, children (and this includes high school children) are extremely stupid.
Sharon, when i buy my own island you have an invitation to live on it. see, it will be utopia, mainly because all kids will be raised properly and notclosed minded like some trail-trash-ignorant-american.

Anyway, I'd like to put something out there to everyone: No matter what you say out loud, there is no one who doesn't have any prejudices. You can hide them in any way you like, but they're still there. It's the people who choose not to hide them or to lessen them or to do anything about them except let them... what's a good word... fester? There aren't just two kinds of people in the world, the people who have prejudices and the people who don't. There is only one kind in that sense. There are just a whole bunch of shades of how well people can hide them.
Oh, and by the way, I doubt that the fact that Brandon killed Larry wasn't entirely his fault. In fact, I'd be willing to believe that he had told someone about it and they suggested he kill Larry. Even so, I blame the fact that he had prejudices in the first place on his environment.
You should notice that people who are discriminatory to a type of people raise others who are discriminatory. There's a lot to say for growing up with the right people.
I never said that no one was without predjudices. To quote Avenue Q, "Everyone's a little bit racist". Its how we act on those predjudices.
