Stranded

Around noon on Wednesday of this week, a tree on our street fell, taking with it both electric and phone lines. While it was annoying to come home without power or phone, I wasn't to put off because I knew that these would soon be returned to me. This was half true.
The power was returned later that evening [thankfully]. So I was able to go online, use lights, stove, tv...... It was great. The phone, however, was not turned back on that day, nor the next.
After a full 24 hours my mom got kinda pissed and tried to get a hold of the phone company online. Their website had you fill out all this info - and the account would be confirmed BY A PHONE CALL TO YOUR HOME PHONE! HA!
Alot of help that was. So we waited another day. When I got home Friday the phone line was still down. This really bugged me. Not only had it prevented me getting in touch with my friends, bu what if there'd been an emergency? What if my grandmother had fallen and she couldn't get in touch with us? What if we'd needed to call 911? Well... since we had no dial tone, that was pretty much impossible.
Finally, my mom got really fed up and called it in [a third time] from my Grandmothers house. Finally she got an actual PERSON, not a recorded conversation. So, around 6 last night our phone line was back up!
Hahaha - I don't think I've ever been that happy to get a telemarketer's phone call. It was GREAT. I am a bit worried about the delay in response to our phone being down. If we didn't live in an age where most families had cell phones [a concept my family pretty much ignores.....], there could have been serious repercussions. I mean - real emergencies.
I'm not sure exactly who our phone company is - I'm just a bit in shock that it would take them so long to fix an issue. Which - once there were here - took like 10-15 min.
The only good thing that came out of it was that I got a rest from telemarketers constantly ringing us up looking for money - though it is fun to answer all their questions then tell them you're a minor :)

That is annoying that they couldn't fix it for a while.

Hey, that's a good idea! Answering the telemarketers' questions and then telling them you're a minor...I should try that sometime! Usually I just speak in German and pretend that I don't know English.

Its soo much fun! I do it when I'm bored. Answer ALL their questions and everything - if you don't sound really stupid they don't guess how young you are.
I spoke with one for like 20 min once. Then he was like.... credit card number?
Me: O - you might wanna talk to Leslie bout that.
Him: Leslie?
Me: My Mom.
Him: How old you you?
Me: 16 [ twas a while ago]

That's kind of ironic!

HAHA You would do that, Sharon.

The best is when you pretend you're a police officer in the house of someone that just died. I heard a recording of it once, it was hilarious.

I heard the same one. That guy is awesome.

Oh, and my sister tried doing the reverse and trying to sell something to the person who called. :-) Another option for those who are overly ambitious.
